Breathe, Walk & Talk

Purpose & Perspective: Valley Walk & Talk

The Brave Collective led by Kirsty Gilchrist welcomed some of her members to come together for a restorative afternoon exploring the beautiful Greenlawdean valley, to discuss purpose and perspective.

Unsurprisingly, the talks started on the madness of the world at the moment and where we all fit and the pendulum swings of global politics. As we descended into the valley there was a very visceral invitation to explore the concept of perspective.

we’re like bacteria on the face of time”

Walking through the red sandstone, it was incredible seeing the different layers of time, each representing a different time in our past.

Water Parsnip in the Greenlawdean Valley

Following the meandering river we spotted water parsnip and water mint growing at the edges of the water in the iris that is just about to bloom, we ended up at the Deil’s Neuk at the bottom of the Iron Age fort, which we climbed up to.

The fort still has its rings, its grass covered battlements that 4,000 years ago would have been huge. And from the inside – which goes to the cliff edge, you come out with the most wonderful view – and perspective.

When talking about perspective and wellbeing, the biggest take away was how we can walk outside and be, and that in itself can change your perspective. Like being in the midst of things in the valley and rising above to look below.

We finished off at the reservoir where Jenny was just setting up the BBQ with Joe the farmer and his family.

An afternoon out, well spent.
